Getting Your Patio and Pool Area Ready for a Deep Clean

We recently got a call from a customer — let's call her Linda — who wanted to schedule our spring special for her back patio, front porch, and outdoor furniture. Partway through the call she asked, “While I have you on the phone, do you do around the pool area as well?”

That one question turned into a great conversation about what’s included in our base package, how pool areas work as an add-on, and — something a lot of people wonder — how to prep furniture and rugs, and whether it makes sense to have a one-tech crew or a two-tech crew.

If you’re thinking about freshening up your patio and pool area, here’s how we walk our customers through getting ready and what you can expect on cleaning day.

What’s Typically Included in a Patio & Porch Cleaning

With Linda, we started by clarifying what comes standard. Our base package is designed around the most-used outdoor spaces:

  • Front porch surface cleaning
  • Back patio surface cleaning
  • Rinsing and washing outdoor furniture
  • Spot-cleaning the main traffic areas (like walkways from the door)

Pool surrounds, side yards, and larger hardscape areas usually fall under add-ons. In Linda’s case, she had a back patio, a small grass area, and then the pool deck beyond that. We let her know that the pool area could absolutely be included — it’s just scheduled and priced as an add-on, even though we still extend our promotional discount across it.

The idea is to be clear up front: your main sitting and entry areas are covered by the base package; anything beyond that can be added so we can allocate the right time and crew.

How to Prep Furniture Before We Arrive

One of Linda’s biggest questions was, “How are you going to clean the patio with all the furniture and rugs on there?” It’s a smart question, and it’s one we hear a lot.

Here’s how we usually recommend prepping your patio furniture:

  • Small, light items: If you’re able, tuck away side tables, small planters, toys, and décor before we arrive. Moving them to the grass, inside the garage, or against a far wall lets us reach more of the surface.
  • Stackable chairs: If they’re lightweight, stack them to the side. We can easily work around a condensed stack and still rinse the chairs themselves.
  • Fragile pieces: Lanterns with glass, delicate plant stands, or decorative items are best moved indoors or to a safe, dry corner.
  • Cushions: If they’re removable and not meant to get fully wet, bring them inside or stack them in a dry area.

You don’t need to strip the patio bare, but a little decluttering gives us much better access and a more even clean.

What Happens if Furniture Stays in Place?

With a one-tech crew, we typically clean around where heavier furniture sits. In Linda’s case, we explained that our technician would:

  • Rinse and wash the furniture where it currently sits
  • Spray all exposed patio surfaces around and between pieces
  • Clean the exposed sections of outdoor rugs

We usually start with the furniture — that way, any dust or debris that rinses off can be chased off the patio surface afterwards. The trade-off is that a solo tech can’t safely move very heavy items like solid stone tables, large sectionals, or loaded storage benches.

If you’re fine with some “shadows” under the heaviest items, leaving everything in place is perfectly acceptable. The visible areas still get a thorough refresh.

Outdoor Rugs: Move Them or Leave Them?

Outdoor rugs came up with Linda as well, because they covered a good portion of her patio. Our general approach:

  • Smaller rugs: If you can roll them up and set them aside, we can clean the full patio surface and then rinse the rugs separately.
  • Larger or heavy rugs: If a rug is too big or heavy to move, we’ll clean the exposed surface in place. A two-tech crew can sometimes safely shift it enough to rinse underneath more thoroughly.
  • Delicate weaves: Let us know up front if any rug is made of natural fibers (like jute or sisal) or is prone to color bleeding. We’ll adjust our pressure and water flow accordingly.

When in doubt, send us a quick photo before your appointment. That helps us decide whether one tech is enough or if we should schedule a second set of hands.

One-Tech vs Two-Tech Crew: What to Expect

The other big decision Linda had to make was whether to stick with a single technician or upgrade to a two-tech crew. Here’s how we usually break that down.

When a One-Tech Crew Makes Sense

A solo tech is typically the right choice when:

  • Your patio and porch are modest in size
  • Furniture is light enough for you to pre-move small pieces
  • You’re okay with us working around very heavy items
  • The pool deck, if included, doesn’t have a lot of obstacles or furniture

With one tech, you can expect efficient cleaning of all exposed hard surfaces, a thorough rinse and wash of the furniture we can access, and a focus on visible dirt, dust, and pollen.

When a Two-Tech Crew Is Worth It

We suggested a two-tech crew for Linda if she wanted a more complete reset without moving things herself. Two technicians can:

  • Safely shift heavier furniture and large rugs (within reason)
  • Cover more square footage in the same appointment window
  • Work both the patio and the pool area simultaneously
  • Pay extra attention to detail in tight corners and under seating groups

There is an additional cost for two technicians, but if you have a fully furnished patio, multiple rugs, and a pool deck you’d like thoroughly addressed, the time and quality gains are significant.

How to Decide What You Need

If you’re unsure which option fits your home, here’s how we guide customers like Linda:

  1. Walk your space: Look at every area you want cleaned — front porch, back patio, pool surround, side paths.
  2. List the heavy items: Make a quick list of anything you can’t or don’t want to move yourself.
  3. Take a few photos: Front porch, main seating area, and the pool deck from a couple of angles.
  4. Share your priorities: Let us know if your main goal is “good refresh” or “as close to a reset as possible.”

From there, we can recommend whether our base one-tech package is enough, or if adding the pool area and a second tech will give you the results you’re really after.

Ready for a Cleaner Patio and Pool Area?

Whether your outdoor space is a compact porch or a full patio–pool setup like Linda’s, a little prep and the right-sized crew make a big difference. Clear the small items you can, decide how much you want moved, and let us know your expectations up front — we’ll take it from there and give your outdoor living areas the fresh start they deserve.
